This is a brief handout for our clients which outlines various issues relating to supplying electronic files; what we require from our clients, and why.

Computer Ready Electronic Files (PDF, 745 KB)
We highly recommend this standard set of guidelines for preparing desktop publishing files for successful output to film.

Colour Match Files (SEA, 157 KB)
This Macintosh SEA contains detailed instructions on calibrating your monitor to Lowe-Martin's specifications. A lo-res file for monitor reference is included in the SEA and should be matched to the proof output at the Lowe-Martin Group to complete the calibration. Also included is a brief explanation of UCR/GCR and the significance of grey balance.

Understanding Resolution (PDF, 231 KB)
An explanation of the relationship between "input resolution" and "output lines per inch."

CCD Scanners (PDF, 1025 KB)
An explanation of the basic components of a desktop CCD scanner.  This also includes a technical explanation of how a greyscale scan is imaged and adjusted by a bitmap editing application.

Notes on File Types

PDF are "Portable Document Format" files which are readable and printable on all platforms using Adobe's free Acrobat Reader software – which is also available as a plug-in for your current web browser.  (A link to this software is available on our Links page.)
